Informational Letter for Parents

Parents: This year Cordova School Choirs is offering three program choices from which students and parents can chose to participate in this year’s choirs. All students will develop knowledge and understanding of choral performance through their classroom experience in choir, but because of the diverse population at Cordova School, the music needs of all choir students will not be the same. Students may ascribe therefore to one of the choices below to satisfy their musical pursuits this school year.

BRONZE PERFORMING CHOIR
Open to students who wish to fulfill the classroom choral performance criteria and who will participate in all on-site performances at the school. Students in this choir will perform all the music of the choirs, learn the curriculum, and be members of the choir in good standing. Students in the Bronze Choir may participate in All West Honors Choir for grades 7 & 8 (not available to 5th and 6th grade students).

SILVER TOURING CHOIR
The Silver Touring Choir is open to students who wish to fulfill the classroom choral performance criteria, who will participate in all on-site performances at the school, and who will additionally attend all off-campus events and performances at the local (Memphis) level. Students in the Silver Choir will perform all the music of the choirs, learn the curriculum, wear uniforms for performances, compete in competitions, and are eligible to participate in All West Honors Choir for grades 7 & 8, and participate in solo and ensemble in February at Martin, Tennessee. 5th and 6th grade students in the Silver Touring Choir are eligible to participate in Elementary All West and audition for Tennessee State Elementary Treble Honors Choir, April, 2010, in Nashville, Tennessee.

GOLD TOURING CHOIR
Students in the Gold Touring Choir will fulfill all the criteria opportunities available to the Silver Touring Choir, and additionally, will participate in any Spring 2010 Out-of-Town Music Festival trip opportunities.

Expenses for the Choirs are as follows:

Bronze Performing Choir – $0 or (optional $35 if formal uniform desired/$17 polo shirt)

Silver Touring Choir
– $100 - includes formal uniform, polo shirt, December field trip, December Field Trip Bus Transportation, December lunch, April Music Festival Registration & Competition, April Field Trip Bus Transportation, April lunch

Gold Touring Choir
– cost of Competitive Music Festival Out-of-Town Trip plus $100 - includes formal uniform, polo shirt, December field trip, December Field Trip Bus Transportation, December lunch, April Music Festival Registration & Competition, April Field Trip Bus Transportation, April lunch

Payment Opportunities: Fund Raising, optionally available, will be a part of the Gold Choir’s activities for paying for out-of-town activities – car washes, World’s Finest Chocolate, fall flowers, Christmas flowers - Poinsettias, Valentine Candy Roses, Cookie Dough, Spring Flowers – details coming at a soon to be announced meeting. (Bronze and Silver Choir may participate in fund raising)
